Contemporary Dance

8yrs +

Contemporary dance is one of the dominant styles for formally trained dancers throughout the world. It is an expressive and dynamic style, whilst at the same time using the body’s natural lines and energy for clarity, fluidity and efficient use of energy and breath. Due to many technical similarities, it is often seen as related to modern dance and ballet, but it enjoys many influences from sources including street dance, Tai Chi and Butoh.

The focus of the technique also employs floor work, fall and recovery, release based movement and stresses versatility and improvisation. It is a highly imaginative and enjoyable form. Contemporary requires a certain core strength and movement foundation, so is for ages 10 and up.
